School flu vaccine sign-up closes soon
Having your kids vaccinated at school is convenient, easy and protects them from the flu (influenza). It also provides protection to keep your family, the school and the community healthy throughout the year. There's still time to sign up for your child to receive the flu vaccine at school.
Online sign-up through SEMNIC.org is quick and easy. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 13 at 11 p.m. This deadline also applies to paper sign-up forms obtained from the school office. No late online or paper forms will be accepted.
The School-Located Immunization Program (SLIP) provides flu vaccines to students in kindergarten through grade 12 at most Olmsted and Mower County public and private schools, Hayfield, Kasson-Mantorville, and Triton public schools in Dodge County, and Pine Island public schools. The program is supported by Mayo Clinic, Olmsted Medical Center and Olmsted County Public Health Services.
Flu vaccines will be offered in the schools as an injection or nose spray (as available). Non-drug, pain-lessening options will be offered. Teachers will have a short video for their elementary classrooms to ease their students' concerns.
To sign up or find out more about the program, visit the school flu program website at semnic.org.
